Warm temperatures combined with Saturday precipitation have had a noticeable impact on the level of transformation in the snow.
However, the snow is mostly still fine-grained / packed, with only a few areas with some crusty transformed spots. Not significantly abrasive.
There may be some light snowfall during the days leading up to the race to refresh the trails.
Traditional Glide Wax Options:
Blue glide wax
Given the cold morning temperature, light transformation of the snow and the possibility of some dirty bits, error on the side of a wax slightly cold for the conditions
HF wax will offer greater speed, better durability, and superior resistance to contaminants
Traditional glide wax benefits from time to set up and crystallize in the base. We suggest applying traditional glide wax early in the week of the event. Liquid glide wax should be applied the night before with.
Holmenkol Speedbase Matrix Cold
This is a great option due to the high flouro content
Rex LF Blue or HF 21
Swix 6 (LF or HF)
Vauhti Cold (LF, HF, or UF)
Spray Glide Wax Options:
Rex 21 Blue Spary (G series or HF)
Swix 6 Liquid Blue (LF or HF)
Vauthi LF Polar Liquid or HF/UF/RC Cold Liquid
HF or UF LDR would also be a great option given the wide temperature range
Note: we suggest that you read and apply the liquid and spray glides according to the manufacturer directions on the package. Each one is a little different and to ensure optimal durability, it is best to follow the outlined steps. Kick Wax Options:
Binder is important given the length of the event. For best durability, melt in with an iron or heat gun and cork smooth. Choose strong binders such as:
Vauhti Super Base
Klister binder - depending on temperatures and precipitation over the next few days, you might consider a thin klister binder such as Rode Special Violet, Swix KX30, etc. However, unless there is significant melting, this may not be necessary.
Test kick the morning of the race, but consider:
Rex: Progrip Blue
Rode: Blue Multigrade, B17, B310
Swix: VR40, VR45 (perhaps cover with VR30 for speed)
